The Monmouth Community Players will present Little Shop of Horrors, directed by Michael T. French (North Wayne), Assistant Directed by Thalia Ravlin (Greene), and Produced by Tori Lee Jackson (North Wayne), at Cumston Hall on March 7-9, and 14-16. Little Shop of Horrors is a 1982 Off-Broadway musical black comedy by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman, about a nerdy florist shop worker who raises a talking plant that feeds on human blood. The musical was based on the low-budget 1960 black comedy The Little Shop of Horrors, directed by Roger Corman. The musical score, composed by Menken in the style of 1960's rock and roll, doo-wop and early Motown, includes several show-stoppers including "Skid Row," "Somewhere That's Green," and "Suddenly Seymour," as well as the title song. This will be MCP's large musical production for the year, and features a live rock band under the direction of Mike Shaw (Auburn). Known for their ambitious designs, the set designers for Little Shop… David and Michelle Handley (Monmouth), Mark Hutton (Greene), and Shawn Schultz (Monmouth) will not disappoint! Stage Manager Stephanie Roberts Shaw (Auburn) will keep everything in order behind the scenes, and Greg French (Auburn) will light the show. In her first show with MCP, Lisa Patton (Auburn) is the costumer charged with creating the shabby look of Skid Row's inhabitants. The show will also feature multiple plant puppets, the last of which just may take over the entire stage! Tickets may be reserved by calling 933-2229. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 8:00pm, and Sunday matinees are at 2:00pm. Ticket prices are $12 for students and seniors, and $14 for adults. Group rates are also available.
